Health

The Adams County Health Department is one of 37 local health jurisdiction statewide. The mission of the health department is to "improve, promote and protect the public's health". This is done through a variety of programs that address the goals in the mission statement. Following are some examples of programs that address these goals.

To improve and promote the health of the public, there are programs to decrease tobacco use, stop the spread of HIV/AIDS, provide food and nutrition information to women and children who qualify financially through WIC, provide immunizations against certain communicable diseases, promote safe food handling and provide assistance with certain water systems.

To protect the public's health, there are programs to provide assistance in permitting and inspecting septic systems, investigation of communicable infectious diseases, investigation of food-borne illness reports, and providing testing and medication for tuberculosis prevention.
