Incident: Residential Burglary and Attempted Eluding

Media Release issued by: Sheriff Doug Barger

On April 23, 2008 at about 11:30 a.m. the Adams County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call that a homeowner had confronted two males, who had broken into her home. It was later discovered that the pair had also broken into an apartment at the same location. The incident took place in the 2800 block of West Phillips Road. The suspects fled in a maroon SUV and the homeowner gave descriptions and direction of travel to the responding Deputies.

Deputies meet the suspect vehicle on Mcmanamon Road west of Othello. Deputies attempted to stop the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle increased its speed and attempted to elude the Deputies. An Othello Police Department Officer deployed spike strips but the suspect vehicle was able to avoid them. The suspect vehicle hits speeds as high as 90 mph.

The suspect continued to the 2100 block of June Street, about 1 mile west of Othello. Both suspects exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The passenger was able to escape capture but is well known to law enforcement, which are continuing to look for him.

The driver ran into a residence, which is an acquaintance of the suspect driver. Adams County Deputies and Othello Police Department Officers set up containment around the residence. The suspect driver is also known to law enforcement and was identified as Carlos Juarez 21 year old with an Othello address.

A 16 year old male wearing Juarez’s clothing ran from the residence in an attempt to led deputies and officers from the residence. An Othello Police Department Officer captured the juvenile male. The juvenile also has felony probation warrants for his arrest and was taken to Martin Hall.

Juarez then crawled out of a window and fled on foot east towards Othello. The suspect reached a lateral canal, jumped in and was taken into custody by an Othello Police Officer.

Juarez is being held at the Adams County Jail for 2 counts of Residential Burglary and 1 count of Attempting to Elude a Police Officer. Adams County Deputies are serving a search warrant on the suspect vehicle today and compiling a stolen property list.
