Evidence & Property

Property seized as evidence in a criminal case is held until such time as the case has been adjudicated. It can then only be released with an order from the Court or Prosecutor's office. If you had property seized in your criminal case, discuss with your attorney the procedures for claiming it.

Persons wishing to claim found property they turned in must comply with Chapter 63.21Revised Code of Washington.

Found property is retained by the Adams County Sheriff's Office for a period of 60 days. The exception is if the owner of the property is know.

Found property left over 60 days, or property left unclaimed after a property claim notice has been sent to the owner is disposed of in accordance with Chapter 63.40 Revised Code of Washington.

The sheriff's office does not conduct auctions of found or abandoned property.

Property seized for Safe Keeping can be returned with authorization by the responsible deputy.

If you have been the victim of a crime or suffered a loss of property, please contact the Evidence/Property custodian with a detailed description of your property.
